OF THE WORLD... It was during the tertiary era that the alpine system's shake-up had the genius for creating the fracture of a part of the old continent called tyrrhenide and raising it up, through the ages, for giving birth to this dazzingly beautiful isle which is now called Corsica.. Situated at the junction of the maritime roads leading from France to Italy and the East, and from Central Europe to Italy and Spain, Corsica with 8772 km2, 183 km long and 83 km wide and 1000 km of coasts, is the third largest isle of the Western Mediterranean and the highest too because it reaches its highest point at an altitude at 2710 km!
The History and the Arts With its high mountain flood of water, the isle's varied History is mapped by men, among those men some Heroes still have, and always will have great respect.
Corsica's history also includes: Vendetta
and Bandits d'honneur [Outlaws], or the Maure
Symbol .. The Variety and Pleasure of Food The corsican table is garnished with tasty and flavoursome foodstuffs. The Lonzu, the Coppa and the Figgatellu traditions are still honourned by the full-bodied wines which are served with fine pork dishes. The Brucciu which is a goat cheese is served with brandy at the end of a stewed -boar meal or can be used for baking. The Pulenta or the fritters bring us again to these culinary traditions where the chestnut tree and the olive tree take up a privileged place. See also Flavours and Taste of Cap Corse Behind the solemn austerity and beyond the generally accepted ideas, you will discover rare qualities such as sobriety, bravery;close family virtues, faithfulness to friendship and word. The Corsican language is a roman language derived from the italian and late vulgar latin groups. The language underwent a Tuscan influence in the eleventh century and still to this day has kept this Dantesque influence. It is hard to find a status for this language because the ancient oral corsican idiom still try to find its way in. The main museums of Corsica present History and Archaeology but also are curators of Recent Art.
Corsica presents strong specialities with regards
to demography and economy. The demographic evolution fortunately has been
reversed for. During the first half of the century, Corsica actually lost
more than the third of its population. Tourism, one of the main isle's industries.
